Reader Poll: As an Adult, How Often Do You Order From the Kiddy Menu?

I did a post awhile back called “Whiskey No Ice is a Shot Not a Glass Full of Liquor”. In it, I discussed a lot of methods employed by RCs to get more for less money.  One thing I got into in particular was customers who order from the twelve and under menu when they are well over the age of twelve.  So my question is, how many of you out there order from the kiddy menu when you’re no longer a kiddy? Please take the time to respond to the poll below.  God bless!

Never. Even at restaurants that are not of the chain family restaurant variety, the offerings on the kids’ menus are often very poor. One place had Kraft mac & cheese on the kids’ menu – sheesh, if I wanted that, I could make it at home for a lot cheaper. When I go out, I want something better, something that I might not be able to make at home.

Kids’ menus are what they are because often, mac & cheese, grilled cheese, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, etc., are all that some kids will eat. They exist so that when families go out to eat, the parents can order what they like from the regular menu, and the kids will have something they like, as well.

So what if the adult portions are too big? I have no problem with paying for a full meal, and if I can’t finish it, have it wrapped up to go, and there’s lunch for tomorrow!

But if the whole family goes out, and they all want stuff from the kids’ menu, they are better off staying at home.

Yay Christine! As always, I absolutely love your comment! You know, I wouldn’t even mind so much if someone had such a tiny appetite that they were overwhelmed by anything but the kids menu… if that were actually the case! Too often I get someone insisting on ordering the kids menu, and then they ask for four or five free bread refills! And they get mad when I won’t give them a free drink like it says on the kids menu! Some people are unbelievable! Lol! God bless, thanks so much for commenting!

  2. the only time i tolerate an adult ordering from the childrens menu is for elderly customers. i had some regulars at my old job who always ordered the childrens chicken tenders because they simply could not eat the large portion that was on the dinner menu or even in the app section. but these people were so pleasant and friendly (and tipped 30%) so i didn’t mind accomodating the request for them.

I have ordered kids meals at fast food restaurants because I want the much smaller portion of fries and drink. and I secretly like the toys that come with :) I would never order off the kids menu at a real restaurant though.

Hi Melissa! I’ve ordered the smaller portions at a fast food restaurant because I wanted a quick snack. And, I can’t say I wouldn’t do it at a real restaurant if the mood struck. But I wouldn’t expect the free drink, and I would still tip well, and I wouldn’t insist that I wasn’t hungry and then proceed to ask for five bread refills, lol! Some people just don’t get it, but you clearly do, so thanks for being awesome! Also thanks for reading and commenting. God bless!
